Groups: team | reserve team | club
Please discuss with your child Students choose to enroll in one of three groups: team, reserve team, and club.
Team players receive more dedicated instruction, additional “training”, and represent their school at five or more tournaments in the year as well as the State Championship. Team players must do at least two hours a week of training (homework), such as solving puzzles or analyzing games. Advanced members of the team receive personal attention to specialize their development plan. Team members who do not meet their obligations will be transferred to the Reserve Team.
Reserve Team players needs to develop their skills or assess the training requirements before joining the team. With continued practice and homework assignments we will help them reach the level of skill and commitment required to join the team. Reserve team are encouraged but not required to to meet the team training and tournament requirements but are not required.

After the start of the program, all new members interested in team must first enroll in the reserve team. If you are interested in being interviewed for the team and willing to make the commitment, please indicate that on the application form. If you want some guidance on your child’s placement, please email contact~at~bayareachess.com.

2. I will play to the best of my abilities.
3. I will play for the chess team in at least three tournaments every semester (or two every trimester) from the recommended list every semester
4. I will do a minimum of two hours of chess training per week (in addition to the time spent playing chess games) and I will ask my parents to certify that.

1 I will enable my children to compete in at least three tournaments every semester (or two every trimester) from the recommended list. In case of unplanned missed tournaments, I will make them up before the end of next trimester.
(a) For players selected to represent their school at the state championships (usually top one to three players in each grade), the tournaments must include: (i) Super State Championship (5/2 and/or 5/3, 2009 in San Jose). (ii) State Grade Level Championship (12/6 and/or 12/7, 2008 in Stockton).(iii) State Girls' Championship (probably January 2009 in San Rafael).
2. I will get my child to wear the team T-shirt to all tournaments they attend.
3. I will follow-up to make sure that my child does a minimum of two hours of chess training per week. I will verify that my child did the training. I realize failure to do so carries penalties or demotion to reserve team and/or club.
