This is an Official State Championship Event approved by CalChess and US Chess Federation!
In the spirit of the 2020 Olympics (which was postponed to 2021),
we invite you to the 2021 CalChess Championship on May 28-30, 2022 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Later, we'll invite you to the 2022 CalChess Championship on Sep 3-5, 2022 (Labor Day Weekend).
The 1000+ Sections are on May 29-30 or 28-30; the Under 1000 Sections are on May 28.
All sections are open to players of all ages (even though you will find a higher percentage of younger players in the Under 1000 sections).

      1. Trophies to:
        1. All players with a winning record.
        2. All club teams with 2 or more players.
      2. Medals to all players who do not get a trophy.

        F (800-999), G (600-799), H (400-599), IJu (unrated & under 400)
      2. All byes must be requested using this form.
        1. 1/2-point byes for any round at least one hour before that round's scheduled start time.

What to Expect after Registering

        • After Registering

          1. Check Processed Entries to confirm registration (available one week before the tournament).
          2. Use this form for changes/corrections.
          3. Add @bayareachess.com to safe senders to receive emails with orientation and other notifications.
          4. Reconfirm the email address and other information in your profile.
          5. Check this page the day before the tournament for orientation information.
          6. Contact us for any questions or suggestions.
      • Financial Transparency

        1. The entry fees for members are slightly lower based on a donation by the Azhar Family.
        2. The entry fees for non-members are slightly higher due to inflation and the extra cost of COVID prevention protocols.
        • What's New?

          1. The 2021 (yes, 2021) CalChess Open & Class Championship will be held on May 28-30, 2022.
          2. The first four rounds of the 2-day schedule will be G/55 +5.
      • What's Expected?

        1. Come as you are! We welcome all players regardless of their rating and playing level.
        2. US Chess and CalChess memberships are required; if you're not a current member, you must renew/signup with your tournament registration so we can process and reconcile your entry.
        3. May 2022 Supplement and TD discretion will be used to place players accurately.
        4. We may adjust round times if needed (but it is unlikely).
