      • Cancelations, Changes, and Refunds

        Please know that we don’t want your money; we want to shift our work when we are less busy. However, unfortunately, we are so overwhelmed during the week before the tournament that we have to choose between speed and quality.

      • What’s Expected?

          1. Come as you are! We welcome all PK-12 players and their parents, regardless of their rating and playing level.
          2. US Chess memberships are required for all players except the Parents Non-rated section. If you’re not a current member, please renew in one of these two ways:
            1. Renew/signup with your tournament registration
            2. Renew/signup here
            We ask so we can reconcile your entry and membership.
          3. We may adjust round times if needed (but it is unlikely).
          4. Be nice to everyone!
      • What’s New?

        1. Parents’ points can count for multiple children.
        2. Both parents may contribute to their child(ren)’s parent-child score.
        3. Mother’s points are doubled on Mother’s Day.
        4. You may register for both Parents' Day Tournaments in one registration to earn $10 tp $35 discount. (See Discounts & Fees Section)
        5. Parents’ registration fees are discounted.

    • Post-Registration Instructions

      1. Check Processed Entries to confirm registration two weeks before the event date.
      2. Use the change form for all changes and corrections. (Please do not request changes via email.)
      3. Add @bayareachess.com to safe senders to receive emails with orientation and other notifications.
      4. Reconfirm the email address, grade, USCF ID (if available), and other information in your profile.
      5. Contact us for any questions or suggestions.
    • Financial Transparency

        1. The entry fees for members are slightly lower based on a donation by the Azhar Family.
        2. The entry fees for non-members are slightly higher due to inflation and the extra cost of COVID prevention protocols.

    3. “Blitz” Event 5:00-6:45pm
      1. Onsite Registration 4:15-4:45pm on the tournament date.
      2. Games from 5:00-6:45pm approximately
      3. Awards from 6:45-6:55pm approximately
      4. Main Event Games from 12:30-4:45pm approximately.
      5. Time Control G/5 d1 (each player gets 5 minutes/game and 1 second/move before their clock starts running)
  • Please request a bye If you will miss a game for any reason.
    1. You may request a bye while registering using the Additional Notes field.
    2. You may request a bye after registering using the change form.
    3. Missing a game without requesting a bye results in an automatic removal because making other players wait without a game is bad etiquette.
    4. ½-point byes are available for all rounds except the last game.
    5. 0-point byes are available for the last round
    6. A maximum of two ½-point byes are allowed for each player per section. ’ Any other byes must be 0-point byes. If you request more than two byes, we will give you ½-point byes for the latest round possible (and 0-point bye(s) for all other games).
